I tired to get him to eat mazuri by mixing the dry pellets with a couple peas. I thought it might start an eating frenzy. Instead he sifted through the pellets and only ate the peas.

So, I took some peas and smashed them into water, removed the peas from the water and then cut up some hay and soaked them in the pea scented hat for 10 minutes.

He ate hay ! He looked a little perplexed and confused... like wtf ?!

Hay certainly won't hurt a Russian tortoise, but their diet consists of broadleaf weeds. Are you feeding those?

Yes I have 30 rose bushes and he will eat those and other weeds or leaves from trees. Just sparingly. He is a pea addict and goes on food strikes if he does not get his peas.

I want him to eat the hay because he is in a mixed play sand substrate.
