Strawberries?

I got a red footed tortoise, Nico, about a week ago. He wasn't eating, so we called the pet store we got him from. He recommended strawberries, and now that is all we can get Nico to eat. We have tried lettuce, carrots, celery, apples, oranges, grapes. He will only eat strawberries. Is it okay to only feed him this?

Hello and Welcome:). It is absolutely NOT okay to only feed strawberries. Get the proper food that he should be eating, as wide a variety as possible and put some strawberry juice on them. As he gets used to eating the better stuff, put less and less strawberry on it, until he will eat without any strawberry on it at all. It is very important that tortoise, as any living thing, have a wide variety of the right food items.

Hi, and welcome to the Forum!!

Please go to the Tortoise Library and look for the diet sheet on Red Footed tortoises. There are many more options for you besides the ones you've shown here.

Totally agree with Yvonne. The other fruits you listed should not be a big part of the diet. More of a treat. Check out the other site she mentioned for proper food items.
