Well, the land area is in, and it came out AWESOME! We sunk a 150 gallon Rubbermaid in there and filled it over the top with sand, it gives here a swallow resting area. The poly rail is up, complete with access door(for me to go swimming). I think she will be comfortable in this setup, hopefully she doesn't out grow it.
Its so big, she will have plenty of room for basking and nesting. It's will have a sand bar when she comes up, and a planted soil area in the back, for nesting. Awesome job, dad!
The rail is there so we can fill the poly all the way up, maximizing the space, while not letting her escape. Also, because it is riveted in place, it let's water overflow, helping during heavy rain. The access door is for just that, access. We got the materials from a old poly tank that got a crack, my dad cut it into these strips, which have been useful in our frog cages, too.
This is how the frog cages come out. They're all made from recycled material, except for the 2x4's. The old mans Kung Fu is strong.
You can just make out the 150 gallon, sand filled resting area under the water. We will remove all the floating plants and plant oxygenating plants on the bottom.
There's a ton more work to do, more pics to come. Please don't forget to vote for us at the TRR. We are nominated in the amphibian image, turtle image, and Chelonia breeder of the year. Thanks!
