im going to babysit a sulcata tortoise and i read somewhere that younger ones need to be put in warmish water every other day, for as long as you find necessary.
i was wondering if that is true and for my 6 inch tortoise if itll be necessary

thanks :D

At 6 inches, unless I was worried about him for some reason being dehydrated, I would no longer being doing the soaking. By that age, they should have sense enough to go to the water dish when and if they get thirsty.Usually between the water in their enclosure and the food they eat, they should do fine.

Now some folks are going to keep soaking theirs and there is no harm that I can see, in doing the continued "forced" soaks. So I guess it all comes down to what makes you feel the most comfortable?

It won't hurt either way, but sometimes they do enjoy a warm soak...

I soak the youngsters twice a day...at least 20 minutes per session. Aladar gets soaked at least twice a week...but I shoot for every other day! It ensures hydration for animals that don't regularly drink...and some don't!
