5. Maple/Ash seed not safe


It is easier to identify plants if we see the whole thing in the ground than bits of them in a hand.

Did you check the tortoise table? And if you post these in weed identification, they may be answered more quickly and more accurately.

I think the seed with one wing is a maple seed. According to the web site I found my answer on, maple seeds are edible. But if Joesmum found something else, then I would say this is a questionable, and I wouldn't allow it to be eaten.

I think #2 is a seed stalk from some sort of grass. Most grass is edible.

I have found that the way you ask your question on a 'net search dictates what kind of answer you get. I first asked GOOGLE if maple seeds are edible and I got a whole page of yes they're edible. Then after reading joesmum's response, I asked GOOGLE if maple seeds are toxic, and the first page of answers tells me that, yes, they are toxic.

That's why sites like The Tortoise Table and others that are specifically for tortoises is such a great asset. One should always try to find their pictures on those sites first before believing a GOOGLE search.
