Hi there. I have rescued two Russian tortoises and I have no idea what their Diet history is. The only seem to want spring mix. I've tried orchard grass and Bermuda but they ignore it. I don't want them to starve so I give them what they like. To get hem on high fiber grasses is this a tough love thing?

Russians don't eat a lot of grass. Weeds and leaves should be the main diet. When I have to feed grocery greens, I favor endive and escarole, and supplement with a little hydrated zoo med grassland tortoise food and herbal hay.

Like Jodie said, they are not grass eaters. They should be eating mostly broadleaf weeds of the right type. Grape leaves, hibiscus leaves and mulberry leaves are all very good too. Add in some flowers and succulents and your tortoise will be good to go.
