Is this terrarium set up ok? I have special red sand/soil mixed with eco earth. Is it ok? Will it cause shell rot? The surface is wet/moist most of the time...is that ok?

Thanks

Ps ignore the big green thing, its just to stop them from entering the area, many seeds planted and sprouts. :D

Looks good to me! Are you using any uva/uvb lights? Like a mercury vapor bulb?

Sorry, id like to know the answer to this too. Mine are kept outside in a tropical (or ultra tropical) environment and it can get pretty rainy leaving the substrate moist much of the time. Any harm in this? My torts have access to a dry sheltered spot too but they seem to revel in the rain.

Yes, as long as they can sun and or warm up to dry off at their connivence.

Thanks Coastal!! Will probably add some granite slabs to ensure this is possible. The idea of shell rot is scary.

Constant high humidity and temperature (26-32 Celsius) isn't a problem?

Hi TortiForte:

It would probably be a good idea for you to start a new thread in the "introductions" section and let us get to know you. Also, if you have your own questions about YOUR tortoises, its nice to start a new thread to talk it over.

Is this substrate ok for radi's? I am mixing it with eco earth. 60/40 this sand/eco earth. It said that there is clay in it, this helps it harden and makes it very similar to the natural habitat.

Thanks

SO any ideas or suggestions?

Of all the sands available, play sand is the most risk-free option. :D
