Hello! I'm a total newbie. I use to be a veterinary assistant but unfortunately have no knowledge when it comes to these little guys! I need all the advise I can get! Boris is a Russian tortoise who was found making a journey down a busy road. I'm concerned his shell seems pretty dry and it has some spots that look rough. Any suggestions?

Welcome to the forum, I hope you enjoy your visits here.
Boris the russian is probably a wild caught tortoise, who escaped, the wild caught russians usually have rough looking shells.

Hello and welcome :)

Tom's Beginner Mistakes is a good place to start your research.

Russians are brilliant climbers and diggers, so an escapee is no surprise. I would take him to a vet and get him scanned, if you haven't already, as he may have been microchipped.

If the shell looks dry and rough, don't worry too much. The outer shell is not living tissue and if he's been living wild, he will have been digging underground and that's natural abrasion.

If you can, please post some pictures and we can take a look :)
