Hello Ya'll
I purchaced a very good looking 8.5 -9" ?scl male from Petco last Saturday.( i know Petco ewwww ) but i have a pair i purchased from them in December 3.5 & 4.5 now 4.0 & just under 5.0 scl.
He actually hase very smooth growth (photo) has a small chip between the scutes.
He has not eaten yet?
i have tried leafy greens .strawberries ,kiwi fruit.forest tortoise food by zoo med .?nothing.
The lady did tell me they just received him the day B4.
He is very active & drinks water from his bowl he just seems to show no interest in food yet?
How long should i wait b4 i become overly concerned?

a new tort can be stressed when moving multiple times and not eat for a while, it can last for days sometimes weeks, I would not worry to much yet, just keep an eye on it and offer a little bit of food, as long as it does not start to lose weight, I would not be concerned.

Thanks for your reply
Should i be concerned about the chipped scute?
will it go away as he gets larger?
If it doesn't go away (chip) will this cause me worries as he gets larger (infections, shell rot ect.
Am i just being overly concerned about nothing?
i want to be able to provide the best care i can for this little guy.
His name is Bubba.....
Yea Yvonne i took your advice Meathead did sound like an awful name to grow up with so now he is Bubba..LOL

Hi Mike:

I'm sure he'll settle in. Just give him some time. It sometimes takes a couple weeks.

His shell looks purfect! I wouldn't worry about the chip.

A trick I used to get a couple of rescued yellowfoot tortoises to eat:

Fix a nice plate of greens then pour a little jar of Gerber strained plum babyfood over it. Gerber has some other kinds of strained fruit, I think kiwi might be one. You can use any of them.

Also, they can't seem to resist over ripe fruit. And maybe mushrooms.

Well today was a nice sunny day so i decided to put Bubba ,Archie & Edith out for some excercise & sun in their outdoor enclosure .
Of coarse Edith & Archie headed immediatly for the food dish .(spring mix)
Bubba checked them out and i could see his gears working in that little head of his .
Didn't take him long to figure out oh that is what that is for .
He finally ate today.
This tort thing is starting to stress me out ...
Should be use to this after all the stress requird to raise happy little bearderd Dragons ....
