Hello People around here.

I have been a follower of this website for some time but never posted.

Now that I got myself these beautiful pets :tort:, it is time I take advice here.

The first in my list is to identify their species.

Please have a look at the pics:

From whatever limited reading I've done, I'm not sure what they are. I've read that Tortoise have claws, and in one of the pics you'll see the claws. So are these turtles or tortoise ??

That's a pretty little red ear slider baby (Trachemys scripta elegans). It looks like it might be a color morph, as he's not as bright green as they normally are.

Yes. I was reading up on them now. I guess then I need to work on a tank for them as they are more of an aquatic specie. I was intending to get myself a Tortoise that I could pet even on dry land, but surprisingly it is the RES that is accessible more commonly at the shops. From what I read, these are species found commonly in America and Mexico. It'd be interesting to see how well they do in the Indian climate.

I'll still look out for the tortoise, though they are very very hard to find them here.

Yes, and please note that water turtles cannot swallow food unless they are submerged in water.

I've dropped in some pellets but they aren't submerged. They are floating on the water. Let me dig in this forum further.
