Hi everyone,

we moved house in January and it's getting warm and fine enough to actually do some gardening. I've found a spot in our new garden where Sherman could safely go - it's a little walled off area where the shed currently sits. We started clearing the Ivy from around it yesterday and I was wondering what I should do about the other shrubs which are in this area. I know one is a conifer ... could I get away with chopping its lower 'branches' off and having it as a sort of umbrella?
I'm not sure what the white one is and the pinky one in the tub... kind of looks like (making this up) Japanese bamboo (not that that exists!!!)

Any help much appreciated!

I could be wrong but the second picture down looks like a hydrangea to me :)

Which if it is, you might need to remove it: http://www.thetortoisetable.org.uk/plant-database/viewplants/?plant=170#.WMwDbvmLSUk

The top one has either Rosemary or Lavender as the pale plant in the middle. I suspect lavender. We have both in the garden. They're in the class "Joe walks round and ignores"

Cut it back hard and it should come good again

Oh eck... don't think I can pull that hydrangea out! If it is that I might have to cut it back and wall it off.

Have to go with Iochroma's IDs, definitely hydrangea on the second bunch of pix. For the first bunch, I was going to throw out Russian Sage.

On second look, the first plant is Santolina chamaecyparissus
Not toxic, but none of my animals will eat it.
