Hi, is anyone able to tell if my horsefield tort is a male or female? He/she is still quite small so not sure if too young to tell at this stage :)

Head to tail bottom shell is 3.5 inches, side to side is just under 3 inches. Almost 4.5 inches across the top of the shell side to side

I was looking up how to tell if its male or female and read that Males usually have their tail to the side, ours nearly always has his/her tail tucked in until we took this picture lol, it doesn't matter to me either way but wanted to find out :)

I have the oposite problem. No females here in North Texas. This one looks female. if you look from the back view, normally a male's tail will curl off to the side and even cross over their leg. A female's tail is stumpy and sticks straight out or just a bit to the side. No where near the leg. Either way, BEAUTIFUL tort!

It looks female, but that may change as it gets bigger. All very young tortoises have the female characteristics.
