So I was soaking my baby leopard tortoise this evening and noticed his lower jaw had a small crack down the middle of it. [3408887ATTACH=full]120037[/ATTACH]
I'm not sure if it's suppose to happen. The scales around his face seem to be shedding/falling off. Any advise on this subject would be helpful.

Cracks are more common in the upper beak, but not unheard of in the lower jaw. He could have simply bit down hard or wrong and cracjed it. If it doesn't interfer with his eating you can leave it alone, it should grow back nice and smooth. If it looks like it interferes with eating then a trim is needed.

Do you have a good uvb lamp? Do you have rocks in the enclosure? I ask because he may not be getting enough calcium or it is trying to eat rocks for minerals.

This is the side of the enclosure with the UVB light and the cuttlebone. He seems to eat fine with the Amal crack. He spends most of his time by the thermostat. ImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1425082544.934591.jpg
This is the other end of the enclosure that contains the humidity.

Ok then the only way I see this could've happen is if he bit the food dish.

I have seen him try and bite the dish but that was when I first starting using the dish back in November. Maybe I will switch to a plastic tub aware lid.
