20160718_093428.jpg Why my tortoise bulging her neck? I discovered this yesterday. Besides this, everything seems fine.

Hello

His neck looks very swollen :(. I would advise Vet visit ASAP - it could be anything from a bug bite to kidney failure (water retention). Good luck.

Thank you. Is not permanent. It goes back to normal after one minute. I am in Toronto, Canada, anyone can provide a good vet for my 20160717_203539.jpg tortoise.

When he is retracting his head the puffines shows (the back is swollen). He should be able to retract his whole head inside his body. It's not normal and it does not go away - please find a Reptile specialist - not all the Vets are knowlageble enough to help you. Keep us updated. Hugs for your tortie.

Likely causes could be either nutritional, cardiac, kidney disease, or lymphatic obstruction .
Bloodwork could rule out any organ dysfunction. Possibly review diet and see if not eating enough or inappropriate diet.

She eat a lot every day. I mix her vegetable with tortoise food, calcium powder with D3 and herptivite multivitamin. She has no problem to retract whole head inside her body. It happens less than one minute every time but it happens few times yesterday especially after I handle her. I will bring her to see a vet after I found one in here. I brought my sick pancake tortoise to a vet, she told me the shell is soft. I have to led her know what is a pancake tortoise. My poor baby finally die without knowing what's going on for him. I think I need a blood test for my indian star. However she is only around 2 Inch. I have her for only two and half years, she is still a baby. I need a good experience vet for her. I am in Toronto, Canada. I have to do some research to find a vet.

She looks like she's straining in the video to pass something, they do puff up when they're pushing. I've never seen them puff up THAT much though.

Has she been around any males, and are you sure she's female? I've never dealt with this so I don't know, could she be trying to pass an egg? Has she eaten anything recently that might have caused an impaction?

EDIT: Nevermind, I forgot she's a baby.

I'd take her to the vet. "Better be safe than sorry"

And a very warm welcome to the forum!

I agree, she put's her bum up like she's about to poop. It's possible that all that rubbing made her neck swollen or it's a kidney stone she is trying to pass and the swelling is due water retention/kidney failure. Get her to the Vet ASAP. Good luck :)

Initially I can see the bladder stone. However after the vet tried to pull the stone out, she push it back. Then she suggested to take xray. She said wait two days see whether my baby can push back. Now cannot poop and I cannot see the stone again.

That is a BIG stone, hopefully she can pass it. Try soaking more often in lurk warm water, it will help her relax and get rid of it. She was close once she can do it twice. Hugs for you tortie:*

I bring her to the vet this morning anaesthetised her and try to remove the stone. However my vet just called said he cannot find the stone but the xray still show it's there. He said is fine to leave the stone inside her body until the stone move to the tail again???? I have already spent CAD$1,000.00. However, no help for my baby. My concern is she eats every day but no poop. Anyone have any suggestion for me what can I do now?

Boy, that is a hard one. I think I would agree with the vet at this point as it would be surgery (thru the plastron) vs waiting for it to come back thru. I think the latter would be much less invasive.

If you're not short on money I would seek advise from another reptile specialist, leaving stone inside can end tragically. Surgery is invasive but you should consider it as an option. Give her a week or so if she will not poop consult a different veterinarian.

My vet said she is too small to have surgery now. So ask me to wait and see whether the stone will poop out later. It is very hard to find a vet can deal with tortoise in Toronto. This is the second vet I tried. The one recommended by the reptile store probably retired. I cannot find her anymore.
