Last week I have adopted a Russian male tortoise from out local anima shelter her at SoCal.
Here is my experience of a one hour waiting game. I have see this guy sitting in shelter for about 7 days and nobody wants it. So I went to the shelter on the third day of adoption available. I first went into the reptile cage which were a small Conner on the cat section and this little guy looks fine except feeding with red ear slider food(green sticker from petco). I immediately went to the front desk and ask for the adoption( I have take the waiting sticker 20 minutes ago).
After check on their system she look at me then she turn back ask a older staff”Can this guy adopt the turtle”. The older staff take a look at me and said no because it’s a desert tortoise. I laughed and told them it’s a Russian tortoise. They definitely have no idea what they have on that cage. So it takes another 30-40 minutes for me to receipt this little guy.
On this one hours waiting time. There were about 30 cats and three dogs turn in. We have so many reptile fans here but we don’t have a reptile shelter. What a shame!
