I put tinfoil on top of lilzillas tank and the temperature stays at low 80s all around tank with 80+ humidity all the time as well but it has sudden temperature spikes where it jumps to 116 degrees around the basking lamp and 125+ under the heat lamp! Should i put ice cubes in the tank to bring down the tempetature?

And her basking area is rocks on top of shallow water so she can drink as she pleases and brings up the humidity a lot!

You don't need the heat lamp and you shouldn't be using colored bulbs. It sometimes makes them eat their substrate and it just messes with their heads in general.

Replace the red bulb with a CHE set on a thermostat. The thermostat will shut the bulb off anytime the temp gets above where you set it, and it will insure the tank stays warm enough day and night.

To get the correct temp under your basking bulb, you need to adjust the height of your fixture or the wattage of your bulb.

Ice cubes are not a good idea. Cutting down on how much wattage you are burning to heat things is the solution.

You don't need a cage, I never use them. You do need to use a ceramic socket fixture though.

  1. The ones that you are using are metal dome with a metal wire cage that goes around the bulb right? Loks like this, but with a cage around where the bulb goes http://www.petsmart.com/reptile/heating-lighting/all-living-things-reptile-heat-lamp-zid36-14790/cat-36-catid-500011;pgid=qkl6mPTHR2ZSRphC8uMa09VN0000uRTrQ4-X;sid=PIhNBKLx3PdMBPdcTR8NAJD781bfyG0vrkRrFRWQ?var_id=36-14790&_t=pfm=category
This is what you want, it has a ceramic socket. You can also get these had hardware stores and Home Depots usually cheaper. The ceramic socket is the part the bulb screws into. If yours has ceramic not plastic socket then yours is fine to use.

Would one of these work?

Sorry, this is a bit old and probably silly, but is that your tortoise in the corner or a toy? It looks worrisome blown up...
