How do I pet my torts?

Its been a month since I got my torts . N they are my first pets ever. They are about 4 inches each . So im guessing they r about 2 yrs old??
Anyways they havent become friendly to me yet.... I try to talk to them... but it just scares them when I rub their shells or pick them up n talk to them ...how do I make them get used to me n recognise me??

It should probably be in the Star section. That would probably get you the most answers from people who know the species. It's certainly not a breeding issue.

Stars are known for this sort of personality. The word most use to describe them is "shy". You are not doing anything wrong, this is just a typical trait of the species.

Sometimes they get better with age and size.

There is no way to know the age of yours based on the size. They all grow at different rates and there are a wide variety of factors that influence the growth rate.
