Recently, my herd took a step backwards and two forwards!

I sent my female (hopefully) mottled/marbled Brazilian (Numa) to Turtletary to join his breeding colony of these beautiful Red-foots. In return the deal was to be a young Northern Red-foot and an option on a future Brazilian hatchling.

Working with Terry was, as I expected it would be, a pleasure... until I opened the shipping container. Instead of the one expected tortoise, I discovered a tiny surprise!

Rana (the bigger one) and Quip (the tiny one) are doing well, eating great, and holding their own against the 'giants'. My kids were flabbergasted to find that the tortoise they bought me on January '07 (Mylo) started out this tiny!

Terry's photos show the subtle brown and orange colors better than mine do- especially on Quip.

Thanks again Terry!

Mark had the lone "marbled" Brazilian.. and I have the Northern hatchlings/yearlings. Plus I'm "growing-up" a little colony of Brazilians [ AKA Cherryheads ] so.. the short of the long is we agreed on a trade as he mentioned above. He also commented on the phone.. that he would like to 'raise-up' a hatchling to be smooth. So the Lord compelled me to give him that opportunity.

Notice the patterns and colors on these guys:

The little one is not bashful -

Mark's hatchling hatched the first week of March '08 -

Our 'trade' hatched the first week of July '07 -

This is how smooth and even they can/should grow -

I'll get pics of "Numa" as soon as 'she' comes out this morning.

We have a cable phone issue now.. UGH!

My new 6".. looks like a female.. is fitting in nicely. She was out in the wallow.. and it was overcast so the pics are not as bright as they could be...

Wow Looks like you both made out well. First Mark those are lovely torts you just got. I like how Rana has a double marking going down to her nose and Quip has a nice round spot. The colors are wonderful. Congratulatins Mark on your new family members.
Terry as usual your pics are wonderful. You almost wouldn't know that was the same tort. She is just beautiful. I love her extensive marbling. And what a beautiful little face.
Thank you both for sharing these with us. And congrats to you both.
