I have a 3month old Sulcata . I keep him outside in anZoomed tortoise house and inside at night . It has a CHE for warmth at night , humidity at 70 to 80%, temp is 88 to 91 degrees, sleeps a lot, gets soaked 2xs a day and can’t eat...

Poor little guy's mouth doesn't close all the way? He's not going to be able to bite off bits of food, so you'll need to chop up the food for him.

It might be a good idea to take him to a qualified tortoise vet to see if anything can be done. Maybe there's something at the back corners of the mouth that inhibits the mouth closing all the way.

Greetings.

Sorry to hear and see the issues your young Sully is having. I was wondering what kind of substrste you have in the tortoise house...and if there is a dark, humid hide inside there as well?

In my opinion, your lil guy looks a lot drier than it should be. Not sure of your soaking regime, but make sure you are soaking in warm enough, deep enough, and for 20-30 or minutes daily. Not having a fully enclosed enclosure is not helping things.

Here is a VERY helpful link to compare your set-up to - https://tortoiseforum.org/threads/how-to-raise-a-healthy-sulcata-or-leopard-version-2-0.79895/

  • Check out soakings, substrate, closed chamber/enclosure, and keeping hatchlings inside vs outside.

Hope you can help resolve your hatchlings mouth issues...

Good luck and Happy Torting!
