Greetings from the Sierra foothills. How do I control the slug infestation in Son's enclosure?

We recently (in tortoise time) actually it's been 6 years, relocated here from the So. Cal. desert. Son, our desert tortoise was hatched and raised there. He's 27 this year. We've had Juliet, the little Russian, for probably about 12-14 years. And a couple of aquatic turtles. The loggerhead has lived with me in his fishtank for 40 years, not sure what the other guy is, we don't see him much, he lives out back in the pond. When I google questions about these guys, I'm always sent to this site, so I decided to join today.

In the evening after the tortoise has gone into his shelter place a shallow saucer of beer on the ground. Diatomaceous earth works too, but it must be kept dry.
