My russian can but... (and I wouldn't try it, for health risks [such as dying]) He just gets very lazy in colder months in the winter (he probably knows ) and doesn't eat as much. Yours may start sleeping more, unless he gets kept outside, and then it keep being warm, so he probably wouldn't!
