Hi Everybody,
I have a baby leopard and a baby radiated. They each have their own indoor enclosure. I only have one outdoor enclosure. I would like to get them each some outside time. I know that housing two different species together is frowned upon for disease and temperament issues. Would I be alright in letting them use the same outdoor enclosure at different times?

Thanks

Hi Brian:

I know this is going to sound sort of snobbish, but I'm going to say it anyway.

The radiated tortoises are so hard to come by and so expensive. I would never knowingly put one in jeopardy. Not to say that the leopard isn't every bit as treasured as the radiated.

Why take a chance?

I wouldn't do it either. I'd make each them them their own enclosure to use.

Can you split the existing enclosure so that they each have their own space?

I agree with Yvonne. I would not take the risk.

I agree with Yvonne, Tom and Kristina. Those germs/pathogens are still in the enclosure even if the tortoises are in the enclosure at different times. I wouldn't take the chance either. I was thinking the same thing Kristina asked...can you splite the enclosure? Even if it's smaller, at least they have time outside and without worry of what could happen if in the same enclosure.

Agreed. The only way I was going to do it is if you guys said, "no problem at all, go for it". I'm not looking to jeopardize the health of either of them. Thanks for your input.

I'll take your advise and split the enclosure. It's a 4 x 8 so that is plenty of room for each of them even after the split. I'll just move it a few feet so that the radiated won't be on ground that the leopard has already been on.
