Hi canadianexotics:

Welcome to the Tortoise Forum!!

What would you like us to call you?

I'm assuming you're in Canada?

I'm sorry, but I really think you have two males. The anal scutes on the one on the left look like they could be female, but that's a pretty big tail. What do the gulars look like?

Welcome. As Yvonne stated the anal scutes appear to be female. Tail is a bit long. Could just be a big tail female : ) they look female to me. Is the plastron starting to concave at all or smooth? Also as Yvonne stated what are the gular acutes portraying. Perhaps some more photos for us to help?

I don't know where the pics from post #1 went, but the one on the left was a male, based on the tail. I could not see the tail on the right pic, but I suspect male for that one too. Gulars are not a good indicator most of the time. I have seen big gulars in very old and mature males but in young adults they are often not all that developed.

I agree with Tom, my 6 year old male has gulars like one on the right so gulars are not always reliable for sexing...

Well I can't see it, but I'll guess male. Females have tiny tails. I mean almost no tail. Just a tiny little nubbin. So if the tail of the one goes off to the side and is hidden against the body then it too is a male. So it looks like you DO have a pair... of MALES. :)

I still say both male.

I'm wondering if those are from two different locales in Africa. The gulars are completely different shape from each other, and yet they both look like male gulars.
