We normally keep our 21 year old desert tortoises in the garage during the winter. Our rabbit decided to dig under our pool and one of the tortoises decided that would be a good place to hibernate the day before we were to put them up. Since he was about 10 or 12 feet back, we couldn't get to him. His brother is in the garage.
With all the recent rains in SoCal, we were really worried that he wouldn't make it through the winter.
He shocked us by coming out today. He is pretty muddy.
Should I wash him off and place him in the garage, give him water, leave him out?????????? Right now he's in a box so that he can't go back under the pool. (Come spring, we'll take down the pool to fill in the tunnels and make sure they can't dig back under it.)
