This is the cute girl that sat next to Jack on the plane (see previous thread). She was also a rescue. She is a hingeback tortoise (native to Africa). She had been left at a veterinary clinic. The veternarian, apparently knowing little of tortoises, was going to release her to the wild (in Maryland). Fortunately, she went to the rescue instead and now she's here with us. She is obviously wild caught. She has an overgrown beak which we will work on. She also has white paint droplets splattered on her, don't know how or why. Regardless, she will be well-cared for here.

This was as close as we could get to a face shot while holding her. Hmmmm....

Sneaking a pic in her cage was the only head-shot we've gotten so far. We're trying to let her settle and not disturb her.

Very nice...would that be the same kind that Terry K. posted on another thread?

That's a K. homeona.. AKA 'homes' Terryo. Virtually the same care etc.

A tortoise's eye is a window into its soul...she looks like she has a story to tell.

I am sure her story would not be all good! Hopefully she will forget all the bad and settle in. The good news is she has eaten, she did some last night and quite a bit tonight. Her name is Fern. She will eventually end up with Willow, our other Homes hingeback.

Still waiting for more photos once she settles in. No rush, of course, well not really....

But when she's comfortable, use one of your fancy cameras to post some shots of her in her new luxury condo/vivarium...;)
