What did you use to water-proof the wood? That's a nice-looking water turtle tub and the nesting box is pretty inventive. How deep is that dirt?

The substrate is about 8 to 10 inches deep. The wood is all pressure treated and then covered with another weather proof varnish and then the oil based paint, only on the outside.

I also used a liner inside the pond box.

It actually makes it better like that. It is getting a little too crowded now, but keep in mind that the plants add security for the turtles, clean the water, provide resting places, and are quite easy for the turtles to stick their heads in between.
