We found this little guy in the middle of the dirt road leading to my friend's campground in Southeastern OH this weekend. I've only ever seen one Boxie (hatchling) in the wild, this guy looked like he had some years on him. He was about 6 inches long, his carapace was pretty smooth, the plastron was completely smooth. I was so excited to see him there!

When I was a kid, I lived in Cincinnati, and used to find box turtles all the time.

I lived 10 years in the cincinnati/N kentucky area and often found boxies trying to cross the road. scary thought, but we would stop the car (and sometimes traffic) and relocate these creatures to the side of the road, into a pasture or wooded area ~ someplace a little safer than pavement and high speed vehicles
