box turtle foot condition

I have two box turtles and one seems to have an issue with his foot. The skin around the claw has a tendency to recede which then I treat with moisterizers and antibiotics. But it can take awhile for it to heal. What would cause this? They both have the same diet. Fruits veggies and meal worms. They get vitamins and waxed. I'm not sure why it's happening.

As you can see in the images the white part in between the toe nail and foot is where the sore was. It is as if the skin recede away from the nail leaving an open red wound. When it heals over it looks like this.

Hard to see details on my small screen.

What kind of substrate are you using?

I'd stop using moisturizer on the foot or any wax anywhere. It could trap infection and slow healing. Also don't clip those nails anymore. They look blunt cut to me.

I would clean the area well and pick off any excess skin or scabs. Dry it than apply Betadine to the area. Do this only once. After the Betadine day, every day clean/dry then apply chlorhixidine. Try this for a week and if you don't see any improvement, switch to athlete foot cream for a while.

You can buy all these products at the pharmacy

I'm not a big fan of using topicals on turtles' shells. I think they do just fine as is.

When you say Betadine you are referring to Povidone-iodine correct? I will give it a try. Do you think they may have a iodine decency or is it just for antiseptic?
