Age

Is there any way to determine the age of my male RT? I rescued him and they had no info on his age. I'm 99% sure he is sexually mature based upon on the size of his tail but I'd love to get a more generalized age range.

Hi, and welcome to the Forum!

Yes, he is full grown. There's no way to tell the actual age unless you know the hatch date. It's not like trees where you can count the rings. Also, he's been in captivity long enough that his beak has become overgrown. Don't cut up his food. Make him have to bite off pieces. And feed him on a rough surface, like a piece of broken concrete.

Looks like your set up could use some help. I would not use a colored bulb and your substrate looks awfully dry. Here are some tips:

This is not his current enclosure! This was his enclosure at the store, they were pretty awful tortie owners. But thanks for your help!

Besides the beak he does look pretty good. No way to tell the age, but I am pretty sure he is older than 3.
