Building an outdoor enclosure in florida

The first 1 1/2 years she (only a she because of the name: Sophia) was kept on an open table. It wasn't until I found this forum that I found out about the humidity requirements. Since then, I have been working on getting her outside where the humidity in central Florida is over 50% almost every...

Building an outdoor enclosure in florida

Thank you for your feedback. I'll take a year for the enclosure. We are looking to move next year to a place where I can make a much better pen.

Welcome fellow central Florida 'er. I'd love to hear how you take care of your tortoises in the area. I have a 2 year old Sulcata named Sophia. I just finished her outdoor enclosure to house her full time.

Building an outdoor enclosure in florida

I'm almost afraid to ask, but I'm looking for some feedback/advice. I would like to house my 2 year old Sulcata outdoors full time. I copied Tom's box, but made it half sized since it's only for 1. I'm hoping the pen will be good for about 1 year but the box should be good indefinitely, I hope.

I would rather dedicate my whole backyard to several tortoises tgan get rid of one of our little guys. We have already added them to our will for our children.

Oh, I didn't even think that was an option. We would love to have another. I will take photos to see if you all could help us determine sex.

I'm sorry for being ignorant, but my big question is... at what point can they be in the same area? I see many examples of several tortoises together and I really don't want to get rid of either. They are part of the family. We will, if need be, but want to try and figure out a way to keep both.

I have put the smaller one inside temporarily until we can build another outdoor one. Maybe swap them each day until the second outside one is complete. Or would it be better to split this one in half temporarily?

Thank you all for your feedback. I will keep an eye on them and build another pen if need be. Hopefully this enclosure will be big enough for the two of them temporarily. Do you think the pen will provide enough moisture the way it sits or is there something else I can do?

Hi all, I have been lurking around and reading a lot of posts before getting started. We have 2 Sulcata tortoises that are about 2 years old. We finally had time to get them outside and just finished their new home. Their names are Sophia and Bob. Sophia is the bigger one. They have some...
