We adopted Ruby in September of 2023 from a family in Virginia. She had mostly lived in their house and been eating premade dry food. Her beak was overgrown and she was pretty lethargic. She had a hard time eating anything that wasn’t shredded.
She’s made a lot of progress here in South...
I just got my new redfoot and yellowfoot hatchlings and this is the setup I made for them. The substrate is coconut coir topped with fir bark. The plants are squash, pumpkin and pet grass. The temperature stays around 83 degrees with 85 to 95 percent humidity. There is sphagnum moss in the hide...
I was just curious, what are your thoughts on soaking homeana or other types of hingebacks? I did a quick (not very deep) search on soaking and there seems to be varied opinions.
We made it happen and got him (I'm saying him for now) to Georgia. @HLackey worked for weeks to get him to us and we couldn't be happier. For those who didn't see the original post and story it's here - http://www.tortoiseforum.org/threads/adoption-for-sulcata.152098/
He's very happy and has a...
I came home to find my female home's Roxy has passed away. She was a very shy and sweet tortoise. This came as a shock and she will be terribly missed. She loved eating papaya and night crawlers, and she loved sneaking around her home. I wish I knew what happened.
Zoo Atlanta has opened a new reptile and amphibian exhibit! It's very nice and is a major improvement over the old one that was built in the 1960s. They are also moving the Aldabra pen to the yard in front of the new building (instead of hidden in the back corner of the Zoo).
Here's a...
Does anyone know of a good source for a Black Mountain Tortoise? I'd really like a hatchling/juvenile to be my next tortoise but I can't find one anywhere. Even the sketchy sources are out of stock. Would there be more of an abundance later in the year?
The remains were found of an extinct tropical tortoise that is believed to be 1000 years old. They found DNA that's still intact. Here's a link to the article.

If you've never had the chance to have an encounter with a Galapagos tortoise I strongly recommend you visit the Alligator Farm in St. Augustine Florida. It cost $35 for a group of 5 people or less to enter their enclosure (after your initial ticket fee of course). They have 4 tortoises - 2 male...
Someone tried to make a run for it! Luckily my furry guard notified me of the attempt.
He must've know I was about to replace the substrate and redesign the table.
I saw this post on Craigslist

While the price is too high for me, I wrote the seller to let him know that it looked like his tortoise was suffering from dehydration and if he didn't have luck rehoming him that he would probably need to...
Hey everyone, this is my first post on here.
I just received two Home's hingeback tortoises and was wondering if you can help me verify if they sent me the proper sex (one male and one female)
The first one is the "female"
The second one is the "male"
They have some chips around their...
