Good point. I wasn't really thinking, just figured "our little boy has grown up." Couldn't we adopt the hatchlings out? I suppose I should visit this site more often. I guess I've been taking for granted how easy it is to keep a DT. Just food and water, and the hardest part is getting the...
Ah-ha! That confirmed a few things for me, thank you. I will put Lenny into another yard, or perhaps expand the current yard for Pebble. He has only been in one other yard that was 8'x8', and this yard is 15-20'x70'. I didn't think the head-bobbing was an friendly greeting gesture. The dog was...
Lately, Pebble has been trying to climb the fence and almost running around the yard like a toddler on sugar. I've seen youtube videos of tots playing with balls so I put one in the yard - nope, he just bashes into it and keeps on going. Our new recue dog has taken quite a fascination with...
A picture of the tail would be the best bet. My Pebble was though to be a girl until his growth spurt; looked just like yours. Now he's BIG with horns and glands. Give him/her a yard where you can let the wild field grass and mallows grow - they love that better than store-bought veggies. Pebble...
Thank You! This was just what I was looking for (well, I was looking for another video) to share with some friends thinking about becoming tortoise parents.
Desert tortoise and a three-toe. "Should not;" you tell them that. They've been best buds since Pebble (DT) was a pebble. We rescued them from some people who had them together in a 5 gallon aquarium for years. Pebble thinks I need to cuddle him, for crying out loud! They don't fight and you...
Trying to keep the guys occupied while I raked all the leaves and junk that the monsoons had blown in the yard. Pebble was more interested in the grass that had sprouted behind a fence I moved than the squash and strawberries. Leonardo ran away and hid fror the camera like he didn't want anyone...
Canon Powershot XS130IS HD blah blah blah. :) Still getting the hang of the features and practicing with Manual focus/ISO/f-stop/aperature/flash. Enough, here's Pebble! (Lenny's hiding, 'cause he's Mr. Grumpypants)
Yeah, sorry. I was being attacked by biting flies. The camera is a little slow and a tripod wouldn't catch all the action. Lenny has always had "little man syndrome," but Pebble usually "shrugs" it off. At least he asked this time. I've always loved the way they communicate.
Still no weeds...
I'll have to take Pebble on a walk around the neighborhood. :D
The mallows grow everywhere along the streets in the warehouse district for some reason, but the ones in the desert either disappear quickly, or are too hard to uproot.
I basically just sprayed the soil to get it damp. How do the wild seeds sprout without rain? Weeds showed up in the other yards after it rained...I'm confused. And I thought the seed mix was ready-to-plant. Maybe I should have put them in the fridge for a while?
I see some seeds are still...
Twice in over a month is overwatering? :)
This yard was a weed bed until Pebble took care of that. Bird seed, forgot about that. Got lots of doves and pigeons...maybe that's the problem?
I planted/"sowed" a quarter pound of desert mix in the tortoise yard over a month ago. Got it from turtlestuff.com. Mixed it with potting mix according to the directions, spread it and watered. Then we had a couple of good rain storms. Left it alone until I watered a little yesterday. Haven't...
My DT climbed up a 4' fence made of chicken wire and 2x4's. "Where's Pebble? there he is - stuck at the top of the fence!" He climbed up the corner where 2 wood fences meet in the new yard, but since he has grown, he doesn't climb much anymore. Cinder blocks couldn't contain him, and his buddy...
