    Leopard tortoise growth rate

Hi everyone, I know that tortoise growth rate may be very individualistic matter, but I'm getting a bit worried about my leopard. He is currently 3.5 years old and weight around 2070g (as measured today). However he has this weight since good three months and before we saw a steady weight gain...

Tortoise eating normally but not active?

Hi, I need to choose days carefully as even in summer it can be quite cold. Soaked every other day, there is a dish with water always available and cleaned daily where the whole tortoise can fit in. I noticed a drastic drop in activity on Monday but since he was eating normally, I thought it...

Tortoise eating normally but not active?

Hi, he is 2 years old. There is CHE on during the night that keeps temps at 26C. We take him for 1 hour outside for a walk. The temperature in indoor enclosure did not change for the past days and ranges from 32 to 26. Tortoise appears to be only eating and sleeping. When we took him out on...

Tortoise eating normally but not active?

Hi, for the past three days my leopard tortoise has considerably reduced his activity. It literally either sits in the hiding or under the basking lamp or eats. Before he would roam the terrarium for whole day between feeding time. Seems to be a bit lethargic but eats normally and drinks. There...

100W or 160W MVB for indoor enclosure?

Thank you for answers :) If the bulb is one side, isn't it better to also add fluorescent tubes in the middle? This way there is no so much heat but more UVB? And on the opposite end, some lightless heat source (like ceramic heater) so temperature should not drop there below 24C?

100W or 160W MVB for indoor enclosure?

Thank you, Tom. Do you think it is better to place the 160 W bulb as much in the center as possible or more to one side?

100W or 160W MVB for indoor enclosure?

Thank you, wellington. I live in Sweden and apartments are quite cold in winter here. I will add some ceramic heaters too, mostly to use during the night. Bulb light will not go through the glass, glass will cover just part of the enclosure. And I will be able to change how far from the...

100W or 160W MVB for indoor enclosure?

Hi! I'm building a new indoor enclosure for my leopard tortoise (2 years old). Size is 240 cm x 140 cm x 50 cm and a bulb can be fitted 30-70 cm from the substrate level. Around 40% will be covered with glass or plexi. I would like to use MVB, PowerSun and Solar Raptor are my only options...

    Impregnating wood for tortoise enclosure

Thanks a lot! I don't think I will find Kennel Seal in Sweden, but boiled linseed oil is popular (since it is supposed to be environmentally friendly). I assume it is ok to use for both external and internal walls of the indoor enclosure?

    Impregnating wood for tortoise enclosure

I was thinking about pine. Will it be harmful for tortoise after impregnating?

    Impregnating wood for tortoise enclosure

Hi! It is time to build a bigger and more durable indoor enclosure for my leopard tortoise. I got stuck on choosing a way to impregnate wood to protect it from humidity and make it easier to clean but also keep the enclosure safe for tortoise. Does anyone have any products to recommend? Thank...

    Is my leopard tortoise constipated?

The soaks are anything from 5 to 20 minutes. She gets stressed when left longer. Mouth does not seem to be messy. If I can't find a safe canned pumpkin, is there other vegetable that is safe and would help?

    Is my leopard tortoise constipated?

My 1.5 years old leopard tortoise hasn't pooped for at least 2 weeks. She is active, eats well. We are now on winter diet - lamb lettuce, romaine lettuce, endive, etc. She is not dehydrated, now gets daily baths in warm water, does not seem to be in pain...but no poo for a long time sounds...

    Repti Glo 5.0 and 10.0

Thank you, coreyc. If I were to use MVB, how high should it hang above the substrate level? The bulb I use for a hot spot hangs only 24 cm above the substrate level and the temperature is quite high. The coldest areas are around 26 degrees. Is there any MVB that has less than 100W?

    Repti Glo 5.0 and 10.0

Hi! Regarding Repti Glo 5.0 and 10.0 (the tube type, not the coil!), which one is better for a young leopard tortoise that is kept indoor through the winter/spring? Currently I have two Repti Glo 5.0, 15W, hanging 35 cm above the substrate level, on long side of the table, that I need to...

    Pyramiding in leopard tortoise

Thanks everyone for answers. Neal - I have two 13W tube type flourescent UVB, around 45 cm above the substrate level. As I live in Sweden, there is very little sun currently. Tom - she ignores the humid, plastic box I made. She is soaked daily (but often fights for life when put in the bowl)...

    Pyramiding in leopard tortoise

I changed my tortoise conditions - I have covered the top, leaving some holes for ventilation, got 50W bulb for hot spot. The humidity is around 70% now (so still some room for increasing it), the temps during the day are from 28 degrees (and the very hot space straight under the bulb is also...

    Pyramiding in leopard tortoise

Thanks for the responses. wellington - do you maintain such conditions (temperature and humidity) 24 hours per day? Or do you switch off all lights during the night (which causes the temperature to drop)?
