I'm gonna try this one more time. Just above my thumb my torts shell is flaking/ peeling a little. It seems new growth is coming in at the same spot under it. Has anyone ever seen this before should I be concerned? Tom have u ever seen this? ImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1408747354.786932.jpgImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1408747369.503507.jpg

Kendall's shell is doing the same thing.
Here is want Yvonne G told me.

"Once a scute pulls away from the bone it will no longer be getting the blood supply and will never reattach. It will eventually fall off. But new keratin will eventually grow...however, it grows UNDER the bone and it takes a very long time. Then that portion of dead bone will eventually pop off and new shell will be underneath.
I hope that this helps.

It looks to me as if a scorching or burning product was dripped on the shell. I wouldn't worry about it. Even if it flakes off in that spot, its still just a minor thing and not life threatening.

Please can you share about the humidity, as I'd like to know if I'm doing the right thing or if you have a better idea. x
