Hello,
I have a 6 month old eastern hermann's tortoise. I call him/her Monty. He is very active, loves attention, and food. When he was 5 months he had a week of runny stool due to poor variety in his diet. I have since become more educated on the more high fiber greens I can give him and he hasn't had a problem since. Until today when I noticed these 2 small dips in his shell toward the front. I give him calcium powder every other day, he has a diet of escarole, endive, dandelion greens, peas, green beans, red romaine, kale, carrots, he's also had some grass that's outside. And he gets 2-3 pellets a week of this zoo tortoise food that the reptile guy gave me. He said it's too cover any gaps in his diet. I soak monty every morning for 10-15 minutes. His light is on for 8 hours a day and he has a heating pad (the highest temp reaching 94 f). Am I doing anything wrong? Is it time for a vet to help? I want to deal with any problems immediately to avoid permanent injury to monty.
Any advice is much appreciated.

I'm not seeing anything abnormal on this animal...can you highlight the areas of concern?

Is difficult to see in a picture, you can barely feel the dip in the shell.but it is there

I forgot to mention it's also on the same spot opposite side of the shell. Possibly genetic and he was too small before to notice? He has consistently been gaining 3-4 grams a week, so I believe he is healthy. @HermanniChris

It might be moisture related. Do you keep the tortoise on a SLIGHTLY moist substrate?

If anything it's related to lack of moisture but it's very minuscule and simply cosmetic. Plenty of tortoises grow up and live long, normal lives with way worse. It's definitely not something I would stress over.

Ok, I just want to be as well informed as possible. I don't want him to become ill due to ignorance. And if there is anything you think I can do better, please let me know. Thank you for your time!

if he's an indoor tortoise then you should make sure there is vitamin D3 in his calcium (also I would recommend try giving him calcium everyday) and you could try boosting the time his light is on (max 12 hours) though 8 hours is usually just fine.
I also prefer heat lamps over heat pads for tortoises though that is just my preference and if you want to change then do a bit more research, also make sure you have a uvb lamp!
I wouldn't worry about it to much, just keep a close eye on it, the things above are really just things to know if you are worrying about the shell and making sure that those things are provided -good luck

He is an indoor tortoise, as I live in western ny. His calcium powder does have vit d3. And the lamp is uvb. The only reason I got the heating pad is because the the guy who I got him from (been raising tortoises for 30+years) said that he had a good luck with it for babies. And Monty really enjoys it, so if it does no harm, I think I'll keep it. But I will give him the calcium more often.
