Hi! My name is Savannah. I am studying Zookeeping Technology, and hope to be an elephant keeper one day. I have a Russian tortoise named Hugo. His favorite food is romaine lettuce and he enjoys being rubbed near the back of his shell and on his chin. My younger brother has a box turtle named Mr. Daniel. His favorite food is strawberries and mealworms. We also have two dogs, a chocolate lab named Roxy and a miniature pinscher named Lucky, a freshwater fish tank, a european nightcrawler farm, and three cacti.

Hello to you Savannah, Hugo and Mr. Daniel and welcome to the wonderful tortoise forum. Romaine lettuce shouldn't be his principal food, but is ok as part of a balanced diet. have a look at the information on Russians under the Mediterranean tortoises section here.
Be careful of the dogs too, as we've had many horror stories here of dogs chewing tortoises as soon as you turn your back. Even the sweetest natured dogs will see a tortoise as a chew toy.
We'd love to see pictures of your tortoise and turtle and their enclosures. We all love pictures here.
Have a look round, learn and have fun.
I actually owned an Indian elephant when I lived in Thailand and he was wonderful. They're very intelligent animals and extremely affectionate. I was responsible for several others at one time too.
Good luck with your dream

Welcome! Do you give any supplements to your Russian? Is it kept indoors/outdoors? How big is your area? Russians need a lot of space to roam and are great climbers. At night, and in the winter, mine stays in a 3x3, two story enclosure. When it's warmer in the afternoon, he's in a 12 feet by 5 feet area.

Hi Savannah, and welcome to the forum! I got a chuckle out of the fact that you included your cacti in your animal grouping. I keep cacti too.

Hi! What kind of cacti do you keep? I have elephant bush and moon cactus (I have the variation lacking chlorophyll, so it is bright orange).

Hi! I give Hugo a calcium supplement weekly. I keep him in a 3 feet by 2 feet enclosure, and take him outside whenever it is warm enough. One day I would like to build him an outdoor enclosure.

I have a very large collection consisting of many different species, but my special interest is in the Euphorbia family, and the plants from Madagascar.
