Thank you, I have to agree he is beautiful...although I might be a little biased :) I Was a bit disappointed too that I haven't had a reply to this....although I appreciate that the more knowledgeable members of the forum probably spend a whole lot of their time answering id queries etc.

That's right Yvonne, i am in the UK :-) Yes the person who responded to my email from the 'tortoise trust' also judged it to be fairly old from the picture i sent them, but didn't really tell me anything more than that.
