Aioki (my RT) just gave me quite a fright.
I was studying for exams when I noticed his hide (a ZooMed Hubba Hut Extra Large) was moving, and I knew he was inside. I figured he was just bumping the sides while digging, because he often does that, but when I peaked into the hide I realised he...
I minor in Japanese and unexpectedly was picked for my school's 2018 study abroad programme in Tokyo. I'm obviously super excited about this because I've wanted to go to Japan since I was 8, and I'll be living in Japan for 3 and a half months.
I wasn't expecting to get selected for this...
Hi! I was born in northwest Indiana! I still live quite close as I've only moved across state lines in the hegewisch neighbourhood and still work in NWI, so I get the climate thing. Its always so unpredictable.
I'm still pretty new to this thing, as I've only adopted my russian Aioki 2 weeks...
I took Aioki outside and was filming him roam around. When I was going back to edit the footage, I noticed his shell looked a bit lumpy. I wasn't sure if this was normal or the start of pyramiding.
I've been doing everything I can to make sure he's in the best condition (and I've only had him...
Yeah, that's him against the fence. I wanted to give him a lot of space outside because he only has a 40 gallon terrarium for inside (working on the table after his outdoor enclosure ^.^). If I remember correctly, the fence that's there is 12ft long, and I was probably going to bring it out...
It was finally warm today! I took Aioki out to explore my old garden area and he had a great time! Since it's supposed to be pretty warm on my days off this week, I wanna start getting his outdoor enclosure together.
I took wood shop in the 7th grade and was pretty good at it. I only ever made...
I got him a cuttlefish bone today as I've read that'll help.
Thanks, he's so social too! I let him have his space to get used to his new home, but he kept staring at me like "Um are you going to pay attention to me??" I think he got used to seeing me as I visited him everyday for a week before...
No, no one commented on him (except my friends to tell me he was cute). I was thinking it looked a little on the long side, google hasn't been helpful as all the pictures of an overgrown beak are EXTREME. I've attached a picture of him from a side view.
As this is my first tortoise and my last...
He's a Russian. I garden, so I'll be growing him some better foods if the weather could finally decide to get above 50. I've got him some dandelion greens, should I give him more of that?
I've had Aioki for a couple days now so we're still getting into our schedules.
I usually put a little under a handful of the mix on a terra cotta saucer every morning around 9 am as this is usually right before I head off to work and is easy to get into a habit of changing his food and water...
I'm happy to say I finally got to bring Aioki home. His name (愛起き) Is Japanese for Love Happens, my Japanese professor helped me pick the kanji for his name.
Since he is a Russian tortoise, his middle and last name is Vitenka Nikiforov from my favourite Russian anime character, Viktor Nikiforov
