Our beautiful 3 month old Dalmatian Hermanns Tortoise arrived from Chris Leone yesterday. To create his tortoise table we utilized an armoire that used to house our family room television. We upgraded to a wall mount flat screen which left the armoire available for its new incarnation. We (when I say "we" please know this means my Husband!) removed all internal shelves. We inserted the 1st piece of wood up front to keep the substrate in place. Then tacked down a thick black shelf liner we found in a roll at Lowes. Next was his balcony which we created with a small shelf that had bark intact on two sides. We collected branches from a recent tree trimming to create the balcony railings and the ladder. I inserted a thick bed of moss on top of the balcony. Next were his hide, some rocks, mopani wood, food & water dishes and his cuttlebone. We've got a PowerSun UVB overhead and a 5" substrate mix of organic top soil and coco coir. He's buried in his hide probably still recovering from his plane ride!
