I thought it was a three toe as well, but it's an eastern. I noticed a lot of them close to the river/ beach area have this sandy like shell. I'm not sure if its a color variant or what.Love 'em!!!!!
I think the one on the bottom is a different sub species. . . maybe even another male - three toe?

Appeared to be an older male dominating a juvenile male.
He even flared at me when I got close to take a picture.

By the time we returned they were going their separate ways. It's cool having pets, but I love seeing them in the wild.
