This is Philbert. He's a 12 year old male DT.
He get's a VERY early start on each day by "basking" early every morning, starting nearly at dawn. Trouble is, it is very cloudy and cold at that time, and there is no direct sunlight. He has learned somehow, that my pool filter pump motor emits a small stream of warm air. So he is able to warm himself by laying next to it.
He is running around the yard grazing early each morning, while all my other torts are still pretty much frozen stiff. None of my other 3 adult torts have learned this trick, which is surprising, because otherwise he's kind of a dummy.

So, he's kind of a one-trick pony? I love it when the little critters figure things out!

I can only imagine, he is a worry free tort and lives his life that way....

Also, I finally saw the whole video of your signature clip and that dog was asking for a little Sulcata shell ramming, lol

Lol...that's very cool, Shelly.

We should start a series called "Tortoises Do The Darndest Things!"

That is one cute tortoise Shelly. I know that Fernando would go out early too when I would open the door of his doghouse, but right now because it is cold I keep him under a heat emitter and let him out a little later in the day. I have found that 60 degree weather doesn't bother him too much though if he's hungry enough. :D :p
