So I have been trying hard to ensure I plant only safe to eat plants in the outdoor space, but am getting mixed information. I am reading here many types of plants as safe to use but when I look them up on the tortoise table website they are not safe. Does it depend on the type of tort?

In general it does not depend on the species of tort. There are different varieties of Aloe for example. Most are non toxic but none should be fed on a daily basis. It has the potential to give the tort loose stools. So some sites will say it is not good to feed it. My Russians have had several varieties of Aloe over the last 20 years with not one bad result. They will even occasionally knock my pots over and go to town, nomming several leaves at a time. It is not something they do regularly and it wont hurt them occasionally. So I dont worry about it.
