Great looking sulcata! Is there a point were they can have too much?

My Sulcata loves his cuttlebone. A large one he will make disappear in about 2 min. I don't think they can have too much.

I had posted this question a few weeks ago. She will literally eat six of them if we're to offer them. She eats mazuri regularly. So she is getting a lot of minerals from that. I give her a block or so a week, broken up into every two or three days.

Interesting. Must be growing quickly to need all that calcium. Either that or she may be forming eggs.

It's probably pretty hard to eat too much calcium, although beyond a certain point, it can make the stomach less acidic, and therefore less of a barrier to bacteria. But tortoises seem to have excellent nutritional wisdom, so if they crave something, odds are they would benefit from it, or at least would not be harmed by it (except, of course, for artificial things they did not evolve with).

Thanks for the info and the complement. I notice a lot of, not so subtle, differences with the shells of the sulcata on this forum. Color, texture, length, height, spurs, etc... Our tortoise is not yet 5 but I see her shell is quite darker and "wood" like than many of the lighter shelled individuals.

Before mine went outside 24/7, his shell was very dark, but it didn't take long for it to lighten up after spending day after day in the sun...

Yours looks fantastic....
