Hi guys,
We have just inherited a south african hinge back . He came to us with a repti mat floor and i have read about different soil/sand combos - everything i read seems to conflict! Can anyone recommend a good flooring ? Thank you!
Welcome. Well this depends on the species really. Most of he Kinixys all fare well on mulch(cypress, hardwood or eucalyptus) mixed with peat moss. They all enjoy being sprayed down too. Some species are savanna grassland and favor daily spraying to mimic afternoon rain showers. Snap some pics and we will tell you which kind it is.
Yes, that beak is a bit long... You can feed him on a slate and it'll trim down naturally, or if you felling brave, you can use a dog nail drejil and file them down. Coco coir is great, you can get it in bulk at garden stores. It's holds moisture and is digestible if your tort swallows some!
Yep that's a bells(western) he will benefit from mulch mixed with some peat moss. Spray down in the afternoons to simulate a rain shower. They can mostly be found in sub tropical outskirts of west African rainforest. But are integrated landscape of grasslands.
