I was reading about this technique today. Biologists use it to determine the number of animals in a certain area. I found 4 three-toed box turtles yesterday all together--one female and three males. Yes, it must be breeding season!! I thought about marking them to indicate they had been caught once in case I see them again, or in case anyone captures them, they will know that they are being tracked and maybe leave them alone. What's your thoughts about this?

If you could make it look official like TRK AN #2 people might think they were part of a study. My cousin does a lot of work with sea turtles, I think thats the sort of thing they write on them.

Contact your local authorities who really do that sort of thing and see if they can offer any advice. The data is more useful if it is part of a larger study and collected/tagged correctly.
