This past spring, I adopted a 12 year old Calif. Desert tortoise.
She is nice and healthy and lives in a large, well planted outdoor enclosure with a burrow, wood house and brick house.
How should I hibernate her?
My thought is to put her in a wooden box, in a cool place, checking her and soaking her monthly.
Suggestions?
I live in Southern Calif. Walnut.
Thanks!
:)

Walnut is nice....anyways onto my two cents :D

If you have adopted your CDT just this last spring, I would plan to keep her up for this year (I am a firm believer that you should not facilitate brumation for a tort you have had for less than a full year) as you have not had a whole year prepping your tort for brumation, also you and her and still new to one another and you have not had enough time to learn her long term "norm" behavior and this is way important to make sure you notice if anything starts to change for the tort...you know what I mean?
