Hello everybody! I just became a proud mom of a full grown Russian tortoise, named Tiberius. He is very active and curious which is very fun to watch. I have mostly been into snakes with a few lizard over the years. As of now I just have a Samatran short tailed python (Hades), an adorable American Staffordshire mix (Tina) and Tiberius. Everything seems to be going great! I'll keep updates on him as he settles in more.

He's starting to warm up to me, even took some food from my hand yesterday! I'm hoping soon he'll learn that I'm a friend and enjoy his new life. Any tips to help him get adjusted a little easier? Thanks everyone!

Here's a pic of his first night.

Hello and welcome.

My tip would be to check these out for proper heating and lighting tips. The pet stores and other sources frequently give out incorrect and potentially harmful advice.

Once you are sure you are not burning his eyeballs with the wrong UV light, messin' with his little head with colored bulbs, risking drowning him in the wrong water bowl, keeping him too warm or too cold, feeding the wrong foods, keeping him in too small of an enclosure, etc… THEN we can begin the process of desensitization. Hand feeding usually helps, but just allowing time to pass and going about your daily business will often desensitize them too.
