They seem to be a logical choice, but I haven't seen them listed as either good or bad for my Marginated. (My care sheet from the breeder included Hermann's with the Marginated tortoises) I've only had him 3 days and he's been eating like a pig since the day he arrived.

Anybody know?

Bell peppers a very high in Vit.'c'

My tortoises ATTACK the yellow, red or orange ones, but shun the green ones. Strange because the colored ones are the same veggie, just riper. Here's a link: http://www.whfoods.com/genpage.php?tname=foodspice&dbid=50

Every thing I have read so far stated to "feed bell peppers to tortoises sparingly". They are a great food for humans but the calcium Phos. ratio is 1:2.1 which is backwards for what you want to feed your torts. Some Plant parts are poison for torts, such as the leaves and some of the fruits of the nightshade family (Solanaceae). Eggplants for example are in the nightshade family and the eggplant (fruit) and the leaves and stems are poisoness. White Potatoes, Tomatoes and Bell Peppers are all members of the nightshade family but the leaves and stems are poisoness not the fruits. However they do carry and undesirable Calcium Phos. ratio as stated above plus tomatoes are high in sugars. Here is a couple of examples of what you want the Calcium:phos ratios to be;
Dandelion greens 2.8:1
Lettuce, romaine 2.7:1

Yvonne, it is my understanding that ripening even in something like the bell pepper intensifies the sugars. That may be why yours like the riper ones. That is a great link, but it deals with food for human consumption. But the In-depth nutrient analysis is super. Thank you.

This is simply information I have gathered and I am in no way an expert. reference sites;
