Thank you both. I am glad he isn't suffering the way he was but I am sad he didn't pull through to end that suffering with a more positive outcome.

I was just notified that he died overnight. I dropped him off at the rescue to stay while I am away and he didn't survive the night.

The shell is soft on the bottom only (never hardened since I got him) and on the sides toward the bottom. His shell is not deformed and not soft along the top.
