Some of these tortoises species are pretty big, why not put their hay in a small rack? It would keep it off the ground, and their heads should be plenty small enough to fit through the bars without getting stuck.
So I found this recipe of Solid Gold (Fit and Fabulous), and I was curious about whether or not this could be used for feeding box turtles. Namely as an additive or mix in, not as a standalone staple. The reason I think this might be an interesting option is because it contains a wide...
This is mostly a question out of curiosity as I don't currently own a turtle or tortoise, but I would like to hear what you guys think! I have some algae powder that I use as a food additive for my fish, and as I was mixing some gel food a few days ago I had a thought. Is algae powder a suitable...
I got what you meant, but pretty much all of them I can see mention right off that they've been sprayed. As far as hay, how young is an acceptable age to feed it? I've heard it's not nutritional enough for young babies.
I live reasonably close to areas where people grow large amounts of hay for livestock. I understand this can be used as a supplement during months when the grass isn't growing as well. On the other hand a lot of them mention that the plot was fertilized and sprayed with pesticides. That's not...
Nice, thank you! Looking at it closer I think I may be able to wrangle my dad into building one. It doesn't look so different from an aquarium hood, and my dad built one of those for his tank back in the day. Thanks again for the help.
I'll have to do more research to see how much I'll need to rely on it then. I should be able to get the little guy outside every day, but I dunno how much would be enough.
Thanks a lot for your help! It should be another couple of months before I'm ready for my new little guy if all goes well, but I don't think it hurts to be prepared.
Is it sad that I would never have thought of that? That would definitely be less expensive than my other ideas. My major other concern is that it's apparently difficult to keep glass enclosures warm enough. Should I be concerned about that?
Edit: Also how did you attach it to the back?
So a little guy would have enough leg room for a bit? That's a thought then. I also have what I think is a 100 or 120 that is missing a front pane that I could probably convert, but that one will take quite a bit more elbow grease to get anywhere approaching useful. I notice that a lot of people...
Hello all! I'm not a tortoise owner yet, but I'm doing research on how to make a big enough indoor setup. I already own a 55 gallon aquarium (48L x 13D x 21H) and was wondering: Could I use it as a sealed chamber for a baby greek, either upright or turned on its side?
Thanks so much for your welcome!
I've been reading a lot so far, and I'm not sure I have the space for one of these little guys. I was thinking I could get to 4x8' if I made it double-decker and then covered the whole thing with a portable greenhouse cover, but I really don't like the idea of...
Thanks for your welcome!
And really? So would a large aquarium or Tupperware bin work then? I'm perfectly happy to build/acquire whatever is needed. I just read that anything that retains moisture TOO well can cause shell rot or lung infections, which I assume would be devestating to a young...
Hello all! I'm a newbie from Texas. I'm doing research for a tortoise table for a future baby golden greek tortoise. I'm probably going to build one out of a bookshelf, but I'm not sure how to waterproof it yet.
The little guy should be able to live outside for a portion of the year I think...
